September ends with a second summer
September sun
Just when we were about to give up waiting, September shone through!
Its
usual promise of warm sunshine with amazing waves somewhat under-delivered this year, so last week's blazing sunshine and decent surf meant gorgeous beach days all week, and we were able to get in the water before and after work most days...

Tim and Jenny C's sweet little Wedding Anniversary surf won the prize for most romantic excuse to go surfing, while Abbie and Emily managed to stay in the pink almost 24/7 (thanks to George for the pics)

Tubestation needs YOU!
Now the summer is over, we're asking for EXTRA VOLUNTEERS to help us run the Tubestation cafe through the winter months ahead. We need more hands generally as we're still quite busy until November - Saturdays especially would be amazing. Half term is coming up (last week of October/first week of November), so we need a good crew for that; and we could do with a solid team of volunteers for the weekend of the Jesus Longboard Classic (13th/14th October). Being a volunteer can be a lot of fun, and its also a great way of getting involved, so if you feel you can, please contact Abi on 01208 869200 or email abi@tubestation.org THANK YOU!

Staff trip to Buckfast Abbey
Buckfast millenium garden
Buckfast stained glass
It's good for the staff to have a little time together relaxing, away from work. So last week five of us took off to Buckfast Abbey in Devon to see how the Benedictine monks do it. If you've never been it's an inspiring work, based around rhythms of life and prayer. Their main commodity is Buckfast Wine, which they sell all over the world, enabling them to maintain the Abbey to a really impressive standard as well as giving back generously to their local community. What really shone through was how creatively the place has been developed over the years, with new ideas which either widen the services offered to the public or which make a creative spiritual statement embraced and encouraged. So next time you're in South Devon with time to spend somewhere contemplative, Buckfast gets a big thumbs up from the tube crew!
Closer to home
Hugo used The Force to finally put Philip back up on the ceiling. Chris helped using his arms. And Rob Davin has been down from Taunton in the second of a series of trips which is giving a little added value to the lives of young people in care - an awesome idea which we're really glad to be enabling, great work Rob!

Firefly woodcrafts
We don't normally do this, but seeing as Adam is our great mate and he's doing such an awesome job of fixing our decking, here is a blatant advertisement for his skills, should you ever need your wood a-workin'. Check his website for all the details!
The Little Lily
Early in September, I was on the coast path between Polzeath and Pentire Point. Summer was over; school had started; the smell of autumn was in the air. Except for the occasional late-flowering thrift, most of the spring and summer flowers had gone... (read Mike's latest blog here)
